Run 4Education - March 29, 2014
This year's run is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2014. Online registration is still open - click here. As we move around to great running spots in the San Antonio ISD boundaries, this year we are running at Brooks City Base. Come see this historic spot where John F. Kennedy made one of his last speeches, run by the historic golf course, and see the tremendous growth in the area. HEB will be providing runner snacks and tech tees are guaranteed through 3/10/14. Don't forget, NINE of our SAISD schools will win $250, $500 or $1,000 for highest levels of participation and schools can recruit community members to run on their behalf. Some of our winners from last year are pictured below.
The day of events begin with Onsite Registration at 7:00am, the Irving Mariachi Band will perform at 7:45am followed by the Spurs Coyote. We will have a Zumba warm up prior to race start and Spurs Sports & Entertainment will have out their Spinning Wheel for prizes. 8:30am is the race start kicked off by Councilwoman Villgran, SAISD Foundation Leadership and our Title Sponsor SRG Force. There are water stations at the 1mile and 2mile markers and snacks and water provided by HEB at the end of the race and volunteers from St. Mary's University and Frost Bank will be cheering you on along the way and at the finish line. For those not running/walking, there will be a Zumba class and active stations by Bexar County Health Collaborative to get you moving too. Those stations and the Spurs Spinning Wheel will continue throughout the morning. As of 3/12/14, we have 1,300 registered runners/walkers.
Inspired by this event, schools are starting their own regular running groups and training for this year's event. Click here to see coverage of the new Running Group at Woodlawn Elementary which is a great example. Have you started a club or group? Contact us so we can share the news. Worried you haven't started training, walkers are welcome!
Want to volunteer? We can utilize volunteers from 7am-10am to help with distribution and collection for chips for the race, work water stations, cheer on runners on the route and help at race end with distributing giveaways for our runners. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 554-2235.
Want to Sponsor-a-School? Your business can give a school registrations and have some for your business as well. Sponsorships are just $500 to help many kids run their first 5K. The print deadline is 3/12/2014 to be on our t-shirt, . Contact us for additional sponsorship opportunities as well or download our sponsorship form, letter of request, and sponsor benefits.
Want to join a training group? Ms. Quintanilla (SAISD Parent and employee) is running two groups: 1) Tuesdays at 4:30pm at Pearl Amphitheater and 2) Fridays at 4:30pm at Woodlawn Lake by the Tennis Courts. We can hook you up or just go out there and start training. Groups are for Hawthorne Academy and Young Women's Leadership Academy respectively, but all students, parents and employees from all SAISD schools are very welcome to join. It was great to have the Spurs Coyote getting the crowd started and City Manager Sheryl Sculley as our Race Starter. The 200 M Youth Obstacle Course by Mile Strong Kids, Spurs Pop-A-Shot and the activities by Bexar County Health Collaborative provided lots of fun activities for the kids at the free Health Festival.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, especially Travis Early College High School, Girls on the Run, Coaches through SAISD Athletics, Frost Bank and Teach for America.
