There are three types of grants that SAISD educators can apply for from the SAISD Foundation to expand student experiences and increase student success. We are continually amazed at the power of educators’ ideas to transform classrooms and increase learning. Just this past year, new chill zones in elementary schools like Gates are helping students decompress, control emotions and refocus on their learning. A new program teaching math through rocketry for 6th graders at Cockett is bringing new excitement to math class that we are confident will impact outcomes this year. New musical instruments like chimes are engaging more students in after school activities at Lamar, which we know increases graduation rates. New programs like Esports at Jefferson are bring piloted and growing STEM programs like CyberPatriots are being expanded across all middle schools through our grant programs.
Funds to support these investments in our classrooms and schools are raised annually from the SAISD Foundation’s Inspire Awards, Golf Fore Excellence Tournament, SAISD employee giving, and from individual community donors. Moved by the power of these grants to impact students, in 2019, Wells Fargo announced a $100,000 gift to the SAISD Foundation to lauch the Wells Fargo Mini-Grant Endowment Fund. Now at $200,000, we will continue to raise funds for this endowment until the campaign reaches $500,000 and can serve as a sustaining source of revenue for this important program.
