Brighter Sky Foundation presents $50,000 to Bridge Digital Divide in San Antonio ISD

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The SAISD Foundation is honored to announce a gift of $50,000 in support of the #ConnectCampaign from the Brighter Sky Foundation. The SAISD Foundation launched the #ConnectCampaign to raise funds for connectivity costs of distributed hot spot devices for San Antonio ISD students who have been impacted by the digital divide in San Antonio. SAISD and the SAISD Foundation partnered to bring access to technology devices and the internet for these students.  With virtual learning now continuing for most SAISD students through the Fall of 2020, this gift will assist in keeping students engaged with their teachers and classmates.

“Schools are grappling with enormous obstacles to provide basic education during this pandemic, so we are altering our course to help provide connectivity to SAISD students. Our foundation [Brighter Sky Foundation] commends teachers on their dedication and perseverance in the face of the evolving situation. We appreciate being able to play a part in eliminating barriers to students who do not have Internet access at home,” said Camilla Ritchey.

With a $1,000,000 goal to help connect students to digital learning by supporting at least twelve months of connectivity costs for 4,000 hot spot devices, the SAISD Foundation is rallying our community to help make this goal a reality. “We are proud to play a role in connecting students to their teachers during a time none of us ever thought we’d find ourselves in. We are very grateful to organizations like the Brighter Sky Foundation that have adapted their giving strategies to meet the most urgent needs for students in SAISD,” said Judy Geelhoed, Executive Director, SAISD Foundation.
