Opportunities to Invest Your Time to Support Students
Thank you for considering investing your time with us. As alumni or friends of San Antonio ISD, you can make a significant and very positive impact on the lives of current students and our newest alumni by giving your time and talents. We need your help to ensure a bright future for the next generation. We have many opportunities that match your interests, skills, and the amount of time you have to give.
Remote Mentor
(Recruitment in April – May annually)
The remote mentor program is a partnership of the SAISD Foundation and the SAISD Office of Postsecondary Initiatives that connects you with our newest alumni to support their persistence to college graduation. As our students transition from high school into college, we want them to know that support does not end for them once they graduate. As a mentor, you will serve as a positive role model and develop a one-on-one relationship with a college student. Mentors offer support and guidance while emphasizing the value of education. Mentors are asked to have at least two interactions a month with their students by email, phone call, text, or Zoom. We ask volunteers to make a two-year commitment to their college mentees. Scholarship & Grant Review
(Recruitment in spring annually)
Help us evaluate and select Innovative Educator Grant winners and scholarship awardees by joining our review committees this spring. The SAISD Foundation is committed to funding opportunities for employees of SAISD to implement innovative ideas to increase student success. Our selection committee will be asked to review 5-10 applications and use a rubric to score them then come together as a group to discuss.
Similarly, scholarship reviewers, are asked to review student scholarship applications in our online portal and score them using a rubric we provide. Volunteers are critical to helping to find the best matches for the scholarships we award to our inspiring and talented students by providing the SAISD Foundation with valuable input.
Book Buddies
(Every Saturday)
Book Buddies is a program of the SAISD Foundation that provides tens of thousands of free children’s books to students in San Antonio ISD schools. The pivotal goal of our program is to help children grow their own home libraries enabling them to be strong and proud readers. Through Book Buddies, volunteers sort through books by grade level, assess the condition of the books, clean them, and place them into boxes to be distributed to the 22,000 students we aim to serve for the 2022-2023 school year.
Book Buddies is located off Hwy. 90 in Port SA and sorting sessions take place every Saturday from 10 am – 12 pm. To learn more about Book Buddies, please click here https://www.saisdfoundation.com/book-buddies/
Alumni Professional Network
(Recruitment in January annually)
Now in its inaugural year, the Alumni Professional Network is a group of alumni across a variety of industries who are interested in reconnecting with San Antonio ISD. These committed alumni help students and our newest alumni gain exposure to the wide range of careers in San Antonio and the surrounding area by providing networking, connections and exposure through job shadowing, internships, and work-based field trips, or by becoming career speakers.
