SAISD Foundation Accepts

Achievement Award

The SAISD Foundation has been selected by Texas Education
Foundation Network (TEFN) as a 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award winner for the Foundation’s Pipeline for College Success program. Above from right to left, Texas Pioneer Foundation Program Director Michelle Coburn stands with SAISD Foundation’s Judy Geelhoed, Jennifer Twiss and Angelica Garza after the team received the award
last week. “We at the SAISD Foundation are so pleased to have been recognized by the Texas Education Foundation Network for our work on the Pipeline for College Success and the complementary programs we have built to support this work such as emergency gap funding, growing scholarship programs and care packages,” said Geelhoed. “It is always an honor to be recognized by our peers for the work we are doing here with the District.”

Marissa Pena is a third grade teacher at Riverside Park Academy and a Mini-Grant Winner for her grant “Flexible Classroom”.  The project was designed to allow students to move more in their “seats” with the use of stools to increase focus and learning. Students can choose to sit at their desks in a chair or choose a stool if they are fidgety or restless and want to be more active while continuing to learn. Especially for students who have a hard time staying still in their chairs, flexible seating (stools, ball seating and wiggle mats for younger grade levels) allows students who are very active to discover a new way to stay more engaged in learning. Students also feel empowered by having the option to pick a different form of seat. Ms. Pena states, “My students are more engaged in lessons now, I even find that I have less behavior problems in the classroom as students are not losing focus, and test scores have increased since the chairs have been part of the classroom.” The SAISD Foundation continues to invest in flexible seating, from standing desks in secondary to wiggle mats in early childhood classrooms because of the powerful teacher testimonies we receive.

Scholarship Season

We are in the thick of scholarship review season and looking forward to many awards in May! Annually, the SAISD Foundation supports more than 150 students scholarships to pursue higher education and emergency gap funding awards to reduce students’ barriers to stepping on a college campus for their first semester. The SAISD Foundation accepts donations, and planned gifts from alumni, businesses, and community donors to support the dreams and aspirations of SAISD students pursuing all forms of

post - secondary education. Scholarships are designed to meet both donor intent and the needs of our students. Scholarships can be district-wide, multi-high school, or focused on students graduating from a specific high school or program in SAISD.  Scholarships may be in someone’s memory, designed to honor someone, or can commemorate an alumni class reunion or special event.

A full listing of our currently funded scholarships can be found HERE !

We thank all who make these student scholarships possible with their financial contributions!
