Citizens for Quality SAISD Schools Presents $50,000 gift to SAISD Foundation

The Citizens for Quality SAISD Schools, a Texas Political Action Committee, presented a $50,000 check on behalf of its donors to the SAISD Foundation in support of the teachers, students and programs funded by the foundation.

“These types of gifts are critical to our ability to respond to both the needs of our teachers and the innovation required to continue momentum in the San Antonio Independent School District,” said SAISD Foundation Judy Geelhoed. “Significant progress has been made by the District, and we are hyper focused on providing the tools teachers need to expand the student experiences that will help their students thrive.”

Rhodes Middle School was the backdrop for this donation. Through the educator grant program, the SAISD Foundation has been supporting teachers at Rhodes with growth of their STEM programs including robotics, pre-engineering, broadcasting journalism, and their campus-based television station. In celebration of this gift, Rhodes was awarded a new sound system that can be used by all fine arts programs at this campus. Read full story here!

PAC Co-Chairs Mario Barrera and Victoria Moreno Herrera made the presentation, PAC donors and volunteers including Walter Embrey, Andrea Narendorf and Chris Green joined in the celebration along with students, staff, and school and district leaders. Both Rhodes Principal Ricky Flores and Walter Embrey spoke as proud SAISD alumni and Board President Patti Radle shared her thanks to all who supported the passage of the 2020 Bond and support the work of the SAISD Foundation.

"My interest in creating a Fiber Art Station for my students began with a question. Am I losing students who might have a love for creating by limiting the materials and techniques to which I expose them? I was drawn to the Fiber Arts because of the amazing benefits it would provide my students. My students will be introduced to a wide range of different fiber materials and techniques such as weaving, embroidery, hand sewing, machine sewing, felting, crochet and knitting. Students will look at classic and modern fiber artists and use the creative process to build their own innovative ways to use this new media." -Amber Smith, Innovative Grant Winner at Jefferson High School.
