New Teacher Shopping Day Launched

This year we changed things up a bit and held a shopping day on August 5 for all new SAISD teachers who were a part of New Teacher Orientation. We were excited to support the strong learning environments that they are working so hard to create in their classrooms. With additional support from a gift from Spurs Give to our Teacher Education Fund, every 5th teacher who came to shop with us received an additional $100 grant, making it a $200 award! Partnering with the District, we were able to support nearly 300 new teachers.

SAISD State Accountability & School Improvement

The 2021-22 accountability results were released by the Texas Education Agency on August 15. The District and its partners had reason to celebrate. In addition to the District maintaining a B rating, as the chart below indicates, there were significant increases in the number of schools with A, B & C ratings. That number increased from 53 schools in 2019 to 84 schools in 2022.

Additionally, there were significant decreases in the number of students attending low performing schools as seen on the chart above from the slides presented at the August 22nd SAISD School Board Meeting. Read more in SAISD's article linked here. 

Program of the Month: Principal School Grants

Two years ago, we brought back our Principal Grant opportunity during Principal Awareness Month. We continue to be able to support larger campus based grants in this way which range from $10,000 - $15,000. Last school year, one of these grants supported the creation of Sam Houston High School's The Wiz. Coming to campus and open to the community November 17, 18 & 19, 2022, this will be the first musical Sam Houston has produced in decades. We know there is a strong correlation between student attendance and student academic achievement. We also know that school district funding in Texas is dependent on average daily attendance. That's why we jumped at the opportunity to partner in an attendance incentive this year for all families - the opportunity for an SAISD family to win a car!  The SAISD Foundation joined forces with Cavender Toyota and Frost Bank to announce the “Attend, Achieve, and Win” program to offer San Antonio ISD students and their families an additional incentive to attend school this year.

Students from all campuses have the opportunity to earn digital entries into a drawing for a family car based on attendance. Rick Cavender stated, “Along with my friends at Frost Bank, we at Cavender are proud to offer a Toyota RAV4 as part of the “Attend, Achieve, and Win” initiative of the SAISD Foundation. One student – one family – will be able to drive away in a new Toyota RAV4 in June of 2023. I cannot wait to host a celebration and hand the keys to a family in  San Antonio ISD."

This incentive program is based solely on attendance and enrollment. Other incentives of lesser value may be awarded each nine-week period. No other factors such as academic performance will be required. We will announce the final incentive of a family car at a public event on June 10, 2023.
